Caro Completes First Major Forté/UDS to Java Conversion

TORONTO, Ontario, February 1st, 2008 – Caro is pleased to announce that they have completed their first major Forté/UDS to Java/J2EE conversion, for SunGard Energy Systems, a US based software company involved in Energy Trading software, working in conjunction with ITerative Consulting PTY (ITC) of Brisbane, Australia and utilizing ITC’s automated conversion tool jcTOOL, this project was completed on time and on budget.

Caro completed the conversion of this 1.6 million line ACES Forté/UDS application in less than one year. The application is highly complex and highly configurable, being a very mature off the shelf system for sale for the trading of complex power schedules. The 1.6 million Forté/UDS lines encompassed 316 GUI windows, multiple servers, a host of interfaces and possibly every feature and technology known in Forté/UDS!

The initial conversion via jcTOOL converted all of the code, both GUI and Server side, to Java with a 99.97% conversion rate, enabling a clean compile of the Java/J2EE code to be attained in less than two weeks from the start date of the project. Then, using a test driven methodology, and working in conjunction with subject matter experts from the client, Caro systematically tested and worked through all the Java code to ensure that it was functionally equivalent to the original Forté/UDS code and thoroughly tested the whole application to get it back to production standard.

“We have rapidly established a great working relationship with ITC and their team even though we are thousands of miles away, and together we are very pleased with the project and what essentially is a fantastic success story. This is our first major successful conversion utilizing jcTOOL, and we hope to complete more in the future” said Keith Matthews, of Caro Systems who is leading Caro’s effort.

The conversion essentially converted the Forté/UDS code “like-for-like” producing exactly the same software in a standard Java/J2EE environment. With no business changes this easily gives the lowest cost lowest risk option for a wholesale conversion as the business is largely unaffected and does not need to any re-training. Technically only the code changes, the database schema is totally unchanged meaning no data conversion and a massive reduction in risk! The new Java/J2EE system can even effectively co-exist with the replaced Forté/UDS system.
